A Drug Free Alternative.

Whilst thought of, for thousands of years, as the primary medical system in China, Chinese medicine is considered as alternative medicine in the Western world. It is becoming increasingly popular in the Western world as people are attracted by the idea of natural healing as opposed to modern medicine and synthetically developed drugs.

Said to have been practised for 5,000 years the history of Chinese medicine is anything but lucid. Considered 2,000 years old, Hung-Di Nei-Jing (Cannon of Internal Medicine) is thought to be the first written document concerning Chinese medicine and is attributed to the Yellow Emperor. But dates and author are still far from clear.

The primary methods of Chinese medicine, and the ones people are most familiar with, are herbal medicine and acupuncture with massage, qi gong, or food therapy playing a secondary role. Through these methods Chinese medicine aims to restore harmony and regain balance to the system rather than treat the disease or illness.

Any illness or disease is caused primarily by lack of harmony. The concept of modern medicine is to treat the illness by the use of antibiotics and vaccines, whereas Chinese medicine has a holistic view, the philosophy of which is that a well balanced person will resist most illness and disease.

While more and more medical schools are including classes on alternative medicine in their syllabuses, the relationship between Chinese medicine and Western medicine is still contentious. Older Western physicians are far more probable than their Chinese counterparts to view Chinese medicine with misgivings.

This is not to say that the techniques are of no value in the West. Alternative medicine has been recognised by drug companies and the value it can give to the world of modern medicine and are employing scientists to gather information from around the world from traditional Chinese medical practitioners. T’ai Chi Ch’uan or qigong, amongst other methods, are being included in classes of hospitals and clinics as part of their inpatient and health programmes.

Chinese Medicine is not considered alternative medicine to over three quarters of the worlds population and it is precisely in the areas of prevention and dealing with physical or emotional illnesses that it excels. It has been regarded as form of non-intrusive, remedial, risk free treatment for thousands of years.

Attitudes towards modern medicine and its reliance on synthetic drugs have influenced many to seek support in alternative medicine and Chinese medicine in particular. Significantly an increasing percentage of the population are now depending on Chinese medicine to maintain good health.

Micro and nanotechnologies are revolutionising medicine
‘Almost invisible’ tools are being developed by European researchers to discover diseases earlier and to treat patients better. The miniaturisation of instruments to micro and nano dimensions promises to make our future lives safer and cleaner. A team of European researchers from the Fraunhofer Institute for Biomedical Technologies Institute near Saarbruecken is using nanotechnology to improve diagnostic capabilities. In the “Adonis”-project, nano-sized gold particles are used to detect prostate cancer cells at an early stage.

Diabetics should look after their feet ( Alternative Medicine )

It is confirmed that the health of diabetic patient’s feet is very important and any injury or bruise, the size of a spot may cause problems right down to the bone and cause gangrene, so diabetics should take care of their feet from shoes to socks and nails to heels. Experts stated at a press conference that for diabetics the most vulnerable organ is their feet. The feet are the organs which are most exposed so when the flow of blood slows at the feet they start to lose sensitivity. An expert claims that even a little bruise might leave the feet more vulnerable to future injuries so diabetics should protect their feet:

”Your feet should be washed every night with warm water, be dried thoroughly and moisturised. After sports and walking, the underside of the feet should be checked with a mirror to ensure there are no bruises. Socks musn’t be too big or too small, musn’t be scrunched up or torn. Shoes should be made from soft leather, with smooth inside and not pointed or tapered at the front. Toe nails should be cut short. Nails should be cut straight across, not rounded.” ( Alternative Medicine )

Experts warn that if diabetic people don’t take these warnings seriously and don’t follow these guidelines they may lose their feet or legs, “treatment is too difficult and lengthy. If injuries don’t heal properly, even a little bruise the size of a spot can reach the bone and become gangrene and can cause loss of toes or whole feet.”

Floyd Looks for Buffalo Hand - Medicine Man, Treaty Delegate, Author talks about the Red Road, how we should live, alcohol, drugs, judging, pointing fingers, gangs, fighting, borders, immigration, freedom… The Medicine man warns of upcoming martial law being declared right here in the US. Stop this from happening. Bush is already setting up detention centers in the US. He has snuck in law to make him a dictator and he will be able to suspend the 2008 elections. These prophesies can be stopped. It is a glimpse of what the future holds, think of it as a warning. But you can stop it, spread the word. Knowledge is power.

The Bush administration has released a directive called the National Security and Homeland Security Presidential Directive - Directive NSPD 51/HSPD 20 . The directive released on May 9th, 2007 has been hidden from us. Search youtube bush dictator… or search for: NSPD 51/HSPD 20 In this directive, Bush declares that in the event of a “Catastrophic Emergency” the President will be entrusted with leading the activities to ensure constitutional government. The language in this directive would in effect make the President a dictator in the case of such an emergency. The directive defines a “Catastrophic Emergency” as the following. “Catastrophic Emergency” means ANY incident, regardless of location, that results in extraordinary levels of mass casualties, damage, or disruption severely affecting the U.S. population, infrastructure, environment, economy, or government functions… If we bomb Iran, or the next president is assassinated (before inauguration), an economic depression, a natural disaster, riots… any trigger could be called a Catastrophic Emergency and Bush would declare martial law and remain in power for an undetermined length of time. Department of Homeland Security has a $385 million contract with Halliburton to build temporary detention facilities. Search Youtube for American Concentration camps or search: rex 84 operation garden plot. Bush pardons himself of war crimes and now he is trying to suspend the 2008 elections and declare himself a dictator. Search Youtube, Google it. Spread the word and stop him!

Thomas Pretty asked:

Far more people today are choosing to use private medical insurance rather than the National Health Service. This can be attributed to a number of reasons but predominantly it is down to the large waiting lists at many public hospitals for routine operations and treatments; additionally however, many want to utilise the benefits of private medical institutions such as private rooms, al la carte menus and unlimited visiting hours. A recent report found that around eight million people chose to take out private medical insurance policies last year. This though is not always a possibility, in some cases, insurance will not be a viable option, meaning that if your want to undergo treatment privately, a self pay scheme may be the alternative. Normally self pay refers to the payment of a surgery on a one off basis.

Is there that much wrong with our national health service however? Well fundamentally no, the majority of people are going private not because the healthcare is better, but generally because it is faster. An often cited example is that of the waiting lists for hip replacements. Currently these are some of the longest waiting lists on the NHS and considering a new hip can be a life changing operation, waiting can be extremely debilitating. While you may have to pay a premium, being treated privately will be considered by many to be a more worthwhile option.

Ultimately when deciding to go private, whether paying with insurance or a self pay scheme, it is about weighing up the debilitating effects of the ailment against the waiting time. In most cases those who choose to go private do so for routine surgical operations. As well as the previously stated hip replacement, another common form of surgery carried out in private medical care facilities is for hernias. More important and urgent surgery needs however have seemed to remain in the public sphere, although as private institutions increase their abilities, even this type of surgery is starting to be conducted privately.

As has been discussed, private medical care does have its benefits. Paying for this care however can be expensive so what is the best way to pay for treatments and surgery? Is it better to take out insurance or simply pay for treatment on a one off basis?

Insurance will not always be more financially sensible. If you are a certain stage in your life it is likely that medical insurance will cost considerably more. This is because as we get older it is usually the case that more treatment will be required. In comparison, paying for one off treatments may work out cheaper if you are in good health generally.

As well as age, both personal and family medical history will be taken into account when starting an insurance policy. Those with long term or chronic conditions will find it almost impossible to obtain insurance and in these cases the self pay option is also expensive. For chronic illnesses, patients should be advised to utilise the National Health Service as it will work out far cheaper.

Whether a patient chooses to use private or public services is entirely up to them. While the benefits of private medical care are clear, for many paying insurance premiums and even paying directly is simply out of the question. In a world where the NHS continues to be bashed in the media, the service it offers to the public cannot be underestimated. Private hospitals are becoming increasingly important though in reducing the time spent on waiting for surgery. As long as both work together, the healthcare in this country should continue to improve.
