He has a son. They are living in America. Basically he is not interested in medicine line. He is a doctor. He has not practised at all. He never accepted that he is suffering from this problem. But 3 years back he agreed to it. He took medicine regularly for two years (maintanance dose). Then he stopped that also. My father is 65 years old. My father is only taking care of my brother. Now my father is suffering from respiratory problem. How to make my brother lead a normal life. He is not getting sleep at all. I feel that my brother can work like a normal person. He talks with us nicely. He is so polite, humble and kind. Since he is separated from his family, he is feeling depressed and not mingling with others. Please advise.

I am 25 years old and have been prescribed by my family doctor to 20mg of Adderall 3x per day. I have been at this dosage for nearly 3 years. I am starting to feel less social than when I first started the medication, I also find myself taking more than prescribed on tough days. If I don’t take it I get irritable and depressed, somedays I won’t get out of bed without it. At first the medicine changed my life for the better but now I feel like it’s making me reserved. I’ve also begun taking Ambien to sleep when I’m traveling for business and I think the insomnia is related to the Adderall. It’s getting to the point where i think I need to talk to a specialist, I haven’t seen my doctor in over a year but he still writes me the script every month. Doesn’t 60mg sound a bit high for a 25 year old male?

After a lengthy time? We are going through a very very difficult time due to the fact that the family member who is suffering from this illness, refuses to be helped either with medicine or with a therapist. I just want to know what is likely to happen if left untreated and I would appreciate answers from people with knowledge on the subject otherwise please do not answer. Thanks

A family member keeps going through the cycle of getting put in the hospital and forced to take psych meds then coming out and abruptly quitting the meds. Each time they get worse and won’t listen to reason. They refuse to talk to counselors, psychcologists or psychiatrists. We think the meds and/or the repeated abrupt discontinuation may be causing the psychosis or withdrawal symptoms that put them back in the hospital. Most experts agree the only way off the meds is to slowly taper off them over a period of time, but that can’t happen unless they agree to take them in the first place. Even if alternative treatments involving vitamins, etc. are used the meds have to be tapered off to get off them correctly, otherwise you get disastrous side effects. Is there any branch of medicine, knowledge or expertise in getting through to someone suffering from denial, psychosis or withdrawal?
