Just about the best version of this song I’ve ever heard. Ol’ Levon and them would be proud.

cuchulain9 on 19 November, 2008 at 5:12 pm #

That is fantastic. It doesn’t need to be compared. There can be more than one great version of a song.

soobeng on 20 November, 2008 at 4:11 am #

you really can’t compare. honestly, i think they are both amazing. it would be too boring if everyone is to sing like the band.

fw22901 on 20 November, 2008 at 12:37 pm #

No need to compare this with the original - they’re both superb in their own way.

dms47949 on 22 November, 2008 at 3:09 am #

I agree, this just blows the original away.

can’t beat levon and danko.
this is good, but it has nothing on the original.

Incc on 24 November, 2008 at 2:59 pm #

beats the original out of the water. amazing.

WOW,
What a joy to listen to.
JW & DR just made that song all over.
Very,Very well done. The Weight has just been put on everyone that will cover that tune.
The bar has been raised.

AWESOME… the harmonies are just great, as is the playing. This is a fantastic take on the Band’s the Weight, it transforms it into a new song without disrespecting the original. Gillian Welch & David Rawlings are among the best artists out there today. Not many artists give me goosebumps, but they manage to do it very often!

danielq030189 on 7 December, 2008 at 3:52 pm #

have to say, i like it better than the original

Clawhammerinfool on 9 December, 2008 at 2:52 pm #

normanthepig on 21 December, 2008 at 4:13 am #

WOW! Old Crow Medicine Show, Gillian Welch, AND DAvid Rawlings! Doing The Weight! this is maybe one of the most amazing things I have ever heard of.

Is it possible to get a recording of this? Anyone know?

Hanksalot on 24 December, 2008 at 2:04 pm #

Simply outstanding! Great job. I can listen to it over and over again. It’ll definitely be played when I leave this world. God bless The Band’s music.
